A shooting at a "pop-up" party organized through social media in Massachusetts early Sunday left eight people injured, including one minor, and two of the victims are in critical condition.
"We are certainly deeply saddened by the tragic events of last night and our hearts go out to the victims and their families," Methuen Police Chief Scott McNamara said at a press conference Sunday. "These acts of senseless violence don't represent the values of our community."
At 1:55 a.m. Sunday morning, police responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a shooting at 100 Lindberg Avenue in Methuen, a city in Essex County, about 30 minutes north of Boston.
When they arrived, police found seven victims with gunshot wounds and an eighth person who received serious head injuries while fleeing the scene, McNamara and Essex County District Attorney Paul Tucker said.
The victims were taken to a local hospital.
"There were hundreds of people involved here, and these are terrible crimes," Tucker said.
State Police detectives and Methuen Police are investigating, states a press release sent to USA TODAY.
Officials say they would not release any more information regarding the shooting Sunday.

Who are the victims?
Victims ranged from ages 17 to 23 years old. Their identities have not been released.
Have there been any arrests?
The investigation is ongoing, but police have not arrested anyone involved in the shooting.
"We have some evidence and some strong leads, but we don't have a suspect at this time," McNamara said.
Tucker declined to comment when asked how many people were suspected to be involved in the shooting
Police seek help identifying suspects
Police are asking for help in identifying the shooters.
Police have multiple leads, but nothing "is as good as people reaching out and giving us information, particularly if it's first hand," Tucker said.
Tucker asked anyone with information regarding the incident to contact Methuen police.
To anonymously share information anonymously regarding the shooting, call the Methuen Police Department by dialing 978-983-8794.
Gunfire erupts in another incident
An unrelated shooting also killed a person in Lynn, a municipality in Massachusetts, on Saturday night, Tucker said.
Multiple shots were fired at the victim while the individual was in a car.
"It's been a very busy night," Tucker said. "Unfortunately, gun violence has been visited up two very good communities.
The Lynn police and state police are investigating the shooting.
